Sort Paragraphs — sort paragraphs and lists in Google Docs A → Z.
Alphabetize paragraphs, bullet lists, and reference lists inside Google Docs — one click from the Extensions menu. Nested items travel with their parent line, blank lines stay exactly where they are, and Ctrl+Z undoes a sort in a single step.
- Select the paragraphs, bullet points, or list you want in order.
- Open the Extensions menu and choose Sort Paragraphs.
- Click Sort A → Z, or open the panel for the options below.
- Ignore English articles — Skip "A", "An", and "The" when comparing, so titles sort by their first meaningful word.
- Sort by last name — Compare names by surname, so author lists and rosters land in the order readers expect.
- Keep first line — Leave the first selected line in place, handy when a selection starts with a heading.
- Case-sensitive — Group capitalized entries separately instead of mixing cases together.
Works only with the document you have open. Your text never leaves it — no external servers, no account required.
